A Virginia Leader in Business and Jobs

On July 1st, 2021, UVA Health announced their acquisition of sole ownership of the Novant Health UVA Health System. Previously, Novant Health UVA Health System—a Northern Virginia regional health system—was owned by the two institutions through a joint operating company.

The expansion of UVA Health is big news for Manassas and Northern Virginia, as UVA Health will provide greater access for local residents to cutting-edge therapies, specialized care, and clinical trials.

“We are so excited about this new relationship and the opportunity to serve even more patients throughout Northern Virginia,” said K. Craig Kent, MD, UVA Health’s chief executive officer and UVA executive vice president for health affairs. “Working together with the excellent team already in place, including our employed and independent physicians, we are looking forward to creating a new vision for healthcare in Virginia.”

UVA Health will take full ownership of facilities from the joint operating company, including the Prince William Medical Center on Sudley Road in the City of Manassas. The hospital is currently the second largest employer in the City and contributes to Manassas having one of the highest weekly wage rates for Healthcare in Virginia.

For patients in Manassas and Northern Virginia, UVA Health’s new scale will mean streamlined access to comprehensive care including the No. 1 ranked hospital in Virginia (according to U.S. News & World Report). Additionally, the expansion will result in increased clinical service offerings at Prince William Medical Center and greater access to their extensive network of outpatient services.

“By expanding our health system’s footprint,” says Kent, “it will also provide us with more opportunities to fuel our teaching mission, which will benefit patients for decades to come by training the next generation of healthcare providers.”
