Manassas, VA — October 18, 2021 — Micah Kemp, Assistant Director of Economic Development for the City of
Manassas, earned the designation of Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) from International Economic Development
Council last week in Nashville, TN.

The CEcD designation recognizes qualified and dedicated practitioners in the economic development field and sets the
standard of excellence within the profession. Mr. Kemp’s longtime pursuit of the CEcD designation culminated with the
rigorous three-part examination that tests a candidate’s proficiency, knowledge, and judgment within the wide-range of
economic development activities including:

• Business Retention & Expansion
• Real Estate Development & Reuse
• Workforce Development
• Finance & Credit Analysis
• Entrepreneurial & Small Business Development
• Marketing & Attraction
• Strategic Planning

“Earning the CEcD designation is a great achievement for Micah,” said Patrick J. Small, CEcD, Economic Development
Director for the City of Manassas. “Micah brings a broad range of experience and expertise to his role here with the
City, and his CEcD designation is further proof that he has the expertise and skills needed to make a real impact with the
Manassas business community.”

Mr. Kemp joined the City of Manassas Economic Development Department in June 2021 after serving in various
economic and community development roles for Fairfax County, Virginia; the City of Gresham in Portland, Oregon; and
Henrico County, Virginia.

As highly competent economic development professionals, Certified Economic Developers work with public officials,
business leaders and community members to create new jobs and promote private investment. Excellence in the
economic development profession improves the well-being, quality of life and opportunities for individuals, businesses
and communities. There are currently just over 1,100 active CEcDs in the United States.
