Lockheed Martin hosted a gathering of employees Oct. 25 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the start of the Manassas facility. Originally built by IBM in 1968 before becoming a part of Lockheed Martin, the site is now home to more than 1,000 employees who engineer leading sonar, acoustics and undersea technologies for the U.S. Navy and allies, according to a news release.

“People are key to our business,” said Jack Gellen, vice president and general manager of the Manassas site. “We have a legacy built on the foundation of a strong employee base. We are who we are today because of our people, and as we look to grow over the next 50 years, we’re going to continue to invest where it matters most.”
